Drawing with Lee Harper

Our author visit with Lee Harper was delightful.  He talked about his love of drawing as a child and how he still loves drawing fun/funny pictures.  He read the story of a clever turkey in the book Turkey Trouble by Wendi Silvano which he illustrated and asked if the children would like to draw a turkey. There was a resounding, "YES!"  He walked them through simple steps using shapes to create the turkey's body and encouraged them to add their own funny and unique details.  Then they got to try their hand at a sheep.  They had great fun and did a super job participating in this special, up-close author workshop.

Kindergarten Germination Experiment, Week 3!

Enjoy these photos of the students with their plants!  Students were amazed at how many roots and leaves grew over the last two and a half weeks.  Watch for a display of their wonderful observational drawings!

Building Structures

Our kindergarten architects have been busy in the art room designing and constructing spaceships, castles, houses, walls...any- and every-thing their imaginations' can drum up. After having explored different textured materials in the art room, our artists are ready to combine textures and materials in their building creations.

We noticed many things as we were building, learning about where to place the tape to really make something stick, that sometimes we needed extra pieces to prop up parts of our creations, and that our buildings could be even bigger if we combined them together!

Everyone is very excited to add more materials to our creations and get the chance to paint and decorate them soon.

Seed Germination, Week 2

The students were amazed to see the changes in their plants this week!  The seeds germinated and we could see the roots, stems and new leaves.  After examining all of the new growth closely and watering our plants with pipettes, the kindergartners recorded the growth with observational drawings.

Números

As some of the other classrooms, the K-Roo's love to dance, "Conga, Conga". Instead of our usual exercise routine of stretching at the beginning of class, we love to dance with this song!

Since last week introduce los números en español (numbers in Spanish) from 1 - 10. We have read three different books, play with a couple of dices. Today we played BINGO! It was a way of introducing them to the numbers from 11 - 20.
