Science Night!

Science Night is tomorrow night!  Come to see student work and participate in lots of science activities. This event is for the entire Abington Friends Community so there will be opportunities to see great Middle and Upper School projects and experiments as well.

Enjoy the miracles of our day! Eleven chicks had hatched by the end of the day and Egg 4 had a pip hole, so we know it's on its way! We hope you'll have a chance to stop by and see our adorable, fluffy friends!

Spike pays a visit!

"Who is Spike?" you may be wondering.  Spike is Jason's most adorable and sweet dog!  They came to visit on Wednesday afternoon to our delight.  Spike brought along his favorite toys, his leash, brush, jacket, and his breath spray!  Jason shared with us how Spike came into his life in California nearly ten years ago.  We heard about Spike's day and learned his favorite word, "treat!"  We even got to give him a  treat for being such a well mannered guest.  We hope he enjoyed his visit with us!!

One of two special visits!!

What an exciting week to return to school!  Farmer Tom from Quiver Farms arrived to our delight with a hen, a rooster, an incubator, a brooder box, and best of all, twelve eggs to hatch!!  He explained the important roles of the hen and the rooster and how we would have to take over these roles while we were taking care of them.  Each day we do an observational drawing and make a note about what we are noticing.  Next week will absolutely be the best when our quiet, little eggs begin to hatch.  I'm sure you will be kept informed of the progress and how fluffy and adorable the chicks will be when they break out of their shells.  Please feel free to stop by and check them out.  They will be here on Science Night (Thursday, April 10th) if you don't have a chance to stop in before that.

Before Farmer Tom left, one of the children noticed that the hen had left a surprise!  She laid an egg in the carrier!!  As you can imagine, we cannot wait for next week!!!

Pajamas and Ancient Egypt

Finally, we found some warmth in winter! On the very last day of winter, kindergarten, and all of Lower School spent the day snuggly and warm in their P.J.s.  We had a fun breakfast with our Third Grade partners in the morning and shared a novel experience with Second Grade in the afternoon.

Second Grade had just finished their study of Ancient Egypt and were giving informative tours to the other grades.  The kindergartners each had a second grade guide to explain the many themes and projects that were researched and worked on during their study.  We learned so many interesting things about Ancient Egypt.
